Disassembly Guide for Medion MD40100 Laptop (WID 2000 NoteBook PC)

Here comes an illustrated disassembly guide for the Medion MD40100 laptop (aka WID 2000 NoteBook PC). To get a broken power jack re-soldered to the motherboard you need to take apart the laptop almost entirely. Also a velcro hack for a broken lid lock is shown. Complete Laptop Disassembly

Remove the power cable and the battery before starting to take apart the machine.

Case Overview

Display

  The display has to be removed before getting access to the mainboard. Start witht the left display hinge.

  And continue with the right display hinge.

Keyboard

  The keyboard can be taken out easily. A detailed view of the keyboard before the removal.

How to Separate the Two Halves of the Laptop Case

  Be careful when prying the two halves of the case apart.

Get Access to the Motherboard

  Some of the internal parts have to be removed first to get access to the mainboard. Start with the CPU fan.

Laptop Power Jack Fix

  The power jack is located in the top right corner of the mainboard. Here is a view from top. Note: this picture has been taken before the bottom of the case has been removed. The power jack has four pins which are soldered into the mainboard. These pins can be torn out, if you don't handle the power cable carefully.

  Success: the laptop draws power again and is able to boot.

Velcro Lid Lock Hack

  The lock of a laptop lid can be easily damaged. Here is a cheap fix. A piece of self-adhesive velcro attached to the laptop case.

  The counterpart of the velcro attached to the laptop lid. You now need both hands to get the lid open.
